Aloka: The Next Stage

The next stage in the vision for Aloka is to build a meditation hall and dormitory to provide greater facilities for retreats.  Construction of the dormitory will commence in 2009.  We seek your generous support to see this project through to completion.

The groundbreaking ceremony for the new dormitory was held in conjunction with Vesak at Aloka on 9 May 2009.  On this auspicious day commemorating the birth, enlightenment and passing away of the Buddha, we also witnessed the birth of a new phase of Aloka which will bring the Dhamma to more and more people.

The Aloka dormitory is a split level building that spans a total floor area of 780 m2. It has 12 rooms and a large Dhamma Hall with preparation area to accomodate up to 40 retreat participants. The dormitory is aimed to build on an environmentally friendly and self sustained basis with harnessing solar power for electricity and Peat's Ridge natural groundwater for water. It will be thermally efficient with ceiling to floor insulation as well as draught proofing under doors and around window to keep the winter warmth in and summer heat out. the dormitory will also have a naturally cooling room for food storage.

Construction of the dormitory has since commenced in September 2009 and the anticipated opening ceremony for the new dormitory will be Vesak 2010.
